Under Marsyas´ skin

7th April 2017 – 8th June 2017
ARCHDIOCESAN MUSEUM IN KROMĚŘÍŽ

We will commemorate the deceased painter and restorer František Sysel, Sn., who was born 90 years ago. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and a pupil of Bohuslav Slánský, he was a respected representative of the so-called  Czechoslovak Restoration School, whose philosophy was that the restorer must be a skilled and scholarly worker as well as an artist. He primarily preserved monuments in Moravia and Slovakia.  An important point in his professional life was the restoration of Tizians painting Apollo and Marsyas, which he worked on from 1962 to 1968.
