The new SEFO book series started with a book about Jiří Lindovský

The first title in the Olomouc Museum of Art – Central European Forum book series, the goal of which is to present, critically evaluate, and incorporate local artists into the wider cultural and sociogeographic contexts of Central Europe at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, is a monograph on Jiří Lindovský. It is comprised of three parts – the first features essays by Ladislav Daněk and Barbora Kundračíková reflecting on the artist’s work as a whole; the second is pictorial, demonstrating the main scopes and themes of Lindovský’s work; and the third is a selection of archival texts, as well as a survey of his exhibitions and critical commentaries on his works.

Jiří Lindovský is truly a master draughtsman: expressing himself through drawing is the way he thinks. At the same time, in the Czech Republic he is considered a graphic artist. This first monograph on his work points out just how narrow this conception is – and it presents Lindovský as an intermedia artist by nature, with a clear understanding of the development of current trends and artistic strategies, whose position in the context of contemporary art is truly unique. In addition to his lifelong passion for the visual world and its transformations, the second fundamental factor in his work is machinery and technology. Lindovský draws from the traditions of Western culture, revising the Renaissance postulates of corporeal and mental harmony, appealing to the deeply spiritual principles of art. He does so objectively and rationally, without depriving art of its essential quality, that which transcends the everyday dimension, which he shows to be, in its very essence, miraculous.
