SEFO fence gets a new look inspired by the sacred pigeon

NEWS: 04 01 2023

The exhibition Architecture in Process also includes a new intervention by architect Adam Lacina at SEFOs Ohrada. In addition to his architectural practice as an amateur biologist and ornithologist, Lacina has long studied the extinction of animals, especially birds. Therefore, his attention could not miss a unique find - two pairs of sacred pigeons (columba sacralis) that nested in the tower of the Olomouc Museum of Art.

The sacred pigeon has not appeared on our territory since 1959, when the last specimen was observed in Prague. The new form of the Ohrada serves to educate and inform the public about the find, but it also offers a practical function for the pigeons themselves. Lacina, as an architect, is currently developing a special feeder that will serve both the pigeons, which are dependent on being fed in an urban environment, and the public, who will be able to observe the pigeons without disturbing them.

However, the unique find confronts us with two questions: what will the new sighting of the Sacred Pigeon mean for contemporary Central European ornithology? And what will happen to SEFO?
