Free entry to permanent exhibitions as of October 1st

NEWS | 30 September 2020

A modern open institution should make the museum collections as accessible as possible for its wide audience. This fact inspired the Olomouc Museum of Art to provide free entry into all its permanent exhibitions as of October this year.

“Mainly in the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum, it is a very generous offer, as this unique facility rated with the exclusive European Heritage Label involves a building complex including the so called Olomouc Castle and the former Chapter Deanery with its valuable exhibits – paintings, sculptures, precious liturgical items and archaeological finds”, reminds the director of Olomouc Museum of Art Ondřej Zatloukal.

“This idea, especially now in the hard times, really convinces me. I would like to see more institutions getting inspired by this generous decision. Of course, I will be happy to see hundreds or even thousands visitors coming to museums. This is definitely a win win situation – the profit we get is much more worth than the profit on the ticket sale,” adds the Minister of Culture Lubomír Zaorálek and reminds this step was a big success in the network of Czech castles already. “The public has to feel welcome; the visitors have to be sure they are entering a space where their visit means a lot.”
