100 years since the birth of Terry Haas commemorated with four exhibitions

Exactly 100 years ago, Terry Haass was born in Český Těšín - a world-famous artist who collaborated with legends such as Picasso, Miró and Chagall. The MUO commemorates her with four exhibitions connected with the places where Haass spent her childhood.

"Graphic artist, painter, sculptor Terry Haas is unmissable in the world history of art. Her artistic creativity is linked to New York and especially to Paris, where she lived for almost seventy years of her life, and she is also linked to Olomouc, where she studied at the Pöttingeum, a girls vocational school," recalls Gina Renotière, Deputy Director of the MUO.

Together with Luďek Štiple and Zdeňka Míčová from the Respekt a tolerance association, she is behind the initiative to commemorate Terry Haasss 100th birthday with exhibitions in the places where she lived.

"We have connected the exhibitions with the places where she lived her happy childhood - Loštice, Úsov, Mohelnice and Český Těšín. Specifically, these were the synagogues in Loštice and Úsov, the museum in Mohelnice and currently the Museum of Těšín. I would just like to remind you that because of her Jewish origin, Terry Haass had to flee Czechoslovakia in 1939," Renotière adds.

Terry Haasss works are exhibited and represented in sixty of the worlds leading modern art galleries and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Art; the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC; the Kunstmuseum Basel, Basel; the Musée dArt Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; and the Olomouc Museum of Art.

"In Olomouc, Terry Haass organized a major and so far only retrospective exhibition in 2006. But our cooperation did not end there. Terry Haass bequeathed us a large archive and an important convolute of her works, which can be seen regularly at the Art Museums exhibitions," Renotière recalled.
