Archbishops chateau in Kroměříž in the course of centuries

Archdiocesan Museum | Gallery of castle screening of castle in Kroměříž
JUNE – OCTOBER 2020

The Archbishops Palace in Kroměříž, the residence of the Olomouc (arch) bishops, today, thanks to its magnificent early Baroque form, is one of the main architectural landmarks of the city. Because of the lack of information, we know little about the oldest history of this bishops seat. Thanks to this, the residence of Bishop Charles of Lichtenstein-Castelcorn (1664–1695) from the second half of the 17th century attracted the most attention. Nevertheless, in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, further successions of Castelcorns successors on the seat of the Olomouc prelates continued. The exhibition of the Archdiocesan Museum in Kroměříž will present how the dynamic building development of the residence captures contemporary veduta, architectural designs and photographs. In connection with the project of restoration of the Archbishops Chateau and the Chateau Gardens, which has been running until 2022, it will simultaneously acquaint visitors with the idea of the project and also introduce new exhibitions that will be created in the building.
