Milan Kunc | Amor and Psyche

25 February – 9 May 2010
Museum of Modern Art | Picture Gallery

This retrospective exhibition presents the work of Milan Kunc (*1944), an internationally renowned Czech painter, draughtsman and ceramic artist. His remarkable figurative works are mostly classified under the category of post-modern art. Nevertheless, the artist developed his own characteristic style as early as in the 1970s that he called rather provocatively ‘embarrassing realism’. Today, Kunc’s art is widely admired for its comprehensibility and visual attraction. The exhibition divided into several sections (Portrait, Italian Classicism, Period Reflection, Timelessness) will be focused predominantly on the artist’s exquisite drawing work, which is still little known in the Czech Republic. Apart from his major drawings, visitors can appreciate the extraordinarily broad and appealing range of the artist’s drawing techniques. The exhibition will also present the exquisite portrait drawings from the 1970s that remain still unknown to the Czech public. We believe that the exhibition accompanied by a book published by Arbor vitae will become a significant event for all lovers of traditional disciplines, among which the art of drawing predominates.
