With the Sleeping Beauty by the time of Emperor Leopold I

NEWS | 22. 9. 2017

How can Baroque kids get closer to school? And what about the nurseries? Such a problem was plagued by the teachers of the educational department of the Archdiocesan Museum of Kroměříž. Eventually they came up with a surprisingly simple solution - though through fairy tales.

"We wanted to get out of the minds of the children, and it seemed best to keep the fairy tales that reflect the life at the noble seat," explained lecturer Petr Hudec.

For the children from the Kindergarten Kollárová, who came to see the exhibition Horses in Ballet Shoes, mapping the celebrations at the court of Leopold I, the imperial court changed into the fairy tale "About the Sleeping Beauty." After a hundred years of sleep, they were taught at the Viennese court to properly celebrate the wedding of the Rose in the spirit of the time they woke up.

Bishop Karels dream

"Dramatic, musical, artistic elements and our new tablets have helped in learning," Hudec said.

The lecturers offered children a part of the mobile digital application of Bishop Karels Dream, which creatively interprets period festivities (theater, horse ballet and fireworks).

"The application is primarily designed for families with children on a self-service tour. But we are also trying to use them in programs for school groups. The children liked the tablets, but perhaps even more enjoyed from their stay at the castle, "says Lenka Trantírková, a lecturer.

Shadow play

Modern technologies, however, are represented in the Kroměříž chateau in addition to tablets. Children also liked the game of shadows on the staircase.

"It is a projection of the shadows of the Baroque figures, which for the duration of the exhibition at the castle was the whole of her entree," adds Hudec.
