Orlovna Kroměříž was inspired by Titian

NEWS | May 20, 2016

More than a hundred works by Czech artists from yesterday exposed in Kromeříž Gallery Orlovna. At the exhibition Memento Tiziano participates also Museum of Arts. Among the authors figure names like Vladimír Kokolia, Tomáš Císařovský, Jaroslav Róna or Vladimír Merta.

The works are stylistically and technically very diverse. "Apart from the established artists appeared a number of promising young artists like Patrik Hábl, Kristýna Šormová či Jan Gemrot," said curator Aleš Vrtal.

The project was organized to mark the anniversary of 440 years since the death of the Italian Renaissance painter Tiziano Vecellio. The main idea of the project is to stress the importance of Titians work for European art through a paraphrase of his painting Apollo and Marsyas, which is unique worldwide and now is located from Kroměříž Castle to the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

"This is the largest exhibition of contemporary Czech art of this ancient theme," said Vrtal.

The main part of the exhibition is installed in the Gallery Orlovna, another paintings and sculptures visitors will find also in the picture gallery of the Archbishop chateau and part of the exhibition can be seen in the Rotunda Kromeříž Flower Garden.

The exhibition is open until 15 September and is complemented by a rich accompanying program in the form of guided tours, concerts and workshops.
