Look at the Moon close up

You can explore the lunar surface by astronomical telescope on Friday, July 15th. Visit the observatory in a lottery is one of the accompanying program of the exhibition Maior Ad Dei gloriam and commemoration of the personality of the Jesuit astronomer Valentina Stansel.

Olomouc monk Valentin Stansel (1621–1705) published in 1655 the first Czech Map of the Moon, successfully observed the comets in Brazil and was the only Czech scientist whose quote the famous physicist Isaac Newton in his work Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy. Despite all his scientific discoveries but was especially missionary who was a member of the Jesuit traveled from Olomouc to South America.

Observing the Moon will also be given a lecture by Karel Trutnovský, which is prepared on August 11 at the Mozarteum. After it people get on the roof of the nearby Natural Sciences Faculty to observation Moon with a powerful telescope.

Guild Observatory Olomouc in the draw for those interested in observing the Moon welcomed three times already and intends to do so on Friday 12th and 19th August and 9th and 16th of September.
