Iva Bittová started a benefit concerts to save the music archive

NEWS | June 17, 2016

Iva Bittová and Jan Čižmář launched this week a series of three benefit concerts whose proceeds will be used for restoration and treatment of manuscripts of music archive Kroměříž Archdiocesan Museum. Another will be held in July and August.

Proceeds from the concerts will use the museum to purchase antiacid paper for the restoration of world’s unique Sonata Violino Solo by Georg Muffat (1653-1704).

"Kroměříž archive has ten thousand music and is one of the largest and most valuable historical music archives in the Czech Republic," said the curator Kateřina Fajtlová. Annually to the archive will visit two hundred scholars.

"The earliest records in the music archives originate from the Baroque period, the period of the episcopate Karl of Lichtenstein-Castelcorn. From the same period is also the only previously known Muffat’s violin sonata. "The composition dates from a time when Muffat ran for the post of Kapellmeister at St. Vitus in Prague. When he was but John Friedrich von Wallenstein rejected, he turned with a request to place a bishop Karl of Lichtenstein-Castelcorn and sent him the sonata as a sample of his work. Even here, however, eventually he entered into service. Finally, he worked mainly in Vienna and Passau," explained Fajtlová.

In Kroměříž music archive there are also unique in the world, including Mozart and Beethoven manuscripts. Archive maintenance is costly and, according Fajtlová, Kroměříž Archdiocesan Museum is not able to pay for everything from public funds. Charity concerts are one way to find funds. The second is a public collection Czech National Trust.

Transparent account number called Kroměříž musical archive is 274955736/0300. Thank you in advance for contributions.
