Curator introduced chapel St. Barbara as a unique work

NEWS | December 14, 2016

Roughly a dozen people conducted curator Simona Jemelková in chapel St. Barbara yesterday. Guided tour of Cycle Works of the month unveiled visitors as well as some lesser known connection.

"New Castle, which part is the tower, is the oldest inhabited building in Olomouc, since the twelfth century," stressed Jemelková. In the past, the seat of the Přemyslid appanage princes and burgraviate. The tower was up to the Thirty Years War a living part of the fortifications.

"Until the mid-eighteenth century, the floor opened private chapel of the chapter deanery and in the nineteenth century it was a chapter dean Robert Lichnovský rebuilt in its present form," said Jemelková. Chapel had received neo-Renaissance appearance.

The name of St. Barbaras Chapel by the curator is typical because of the location of the tower. "The tower is one of her attributes, as Saint Barbara was imprisoned in the Tower," reminded Jemelková.

The next guided tour of one of the work of the Archdiocesan Museum will be held on January 11. Curator Jana Hrbáčová acquaint visitors with Madonna of the church of Our Lady of the Snows, which is the only wooden statue from the second half of the 14th century in Olomouc. Its original restored since 2006, is part of the permanent exhibition of the Archdiocesan Museum.

Guided tours are available for free, just because of the limited seating, reservations is required. By e-mail pokladna@olmuart.cz or by calling 585 514 190.
