A retrospective of Jan Švankmajer (b. 1934), a leading figure in the Czech film and art scene of the last forty years, whose work is closely related with Hermetic philosophy, surrealistic creative processes and inspiration dating back to the times of Rudolf II, with whom he shares an interest in curiosities and alchemy. The collection of exhibits shows Švankmajers work in its entirety, from initial drafts and surrealistic collages and frottages to mysterious tactile and erotic artefacts and examples of the artist’s film experiments.
