Georg Anton Heinz (1698–1759)

September 29 , 2011- February 19, 2012
Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum | Picture Gallery

Another of the series of monographic exhibitions of the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum will focus on the work of one of the most distinctive and original personalities of Moravian Baroque, the sculptor Georg Anton Heinz. As one of the few Baroque artists working in Moravia, Heinz, a native of Svitavy, came from the native environment. His life and work is closely linked with the three places - Uničov, Olomouc and Znojmo. The relatively large number of preserved works includes a series of outdoor sculptures and complex sculptural groups, as well as exquisite carvings and later also stucco decoration in church interiors. The selection on show of mainly Heinz’s carvings documents the artistic originality and authenticity of this distinguished sculptor, whose best works are comparable with the works of the foremost sculptors of European Baroque.
