For temple, city and homeland | Bishop of Olomouc Karel from Lichtenstein-Castelcorna in the middle of Baroque Europe

Archdiocesan Museum Olomouc | Gallery
from June 13 to October 13, 2019

Bishop Karel of Lichtenstein-Castelcorna was the most important Baroque bishop of the Olomouc diocese. He raised his property after the thirty-year-old war, built its headquarters in Olomouc, Kroměříž and other places. He bought an amazing image collection, founded the Episcopal Library. Exhibitions of the Olomouc Art Museum, which will be opened in the Archbishops Palace in Kroměříž and the Archdiocesan Museum of Olomouc, are the result of a four-year research and, together with two monographs, pay off a part of the huge debt that the contemporaries have to this important person.

The exhibition is realized as part of the project For the Temple, the City and the Country, supported by the grant programme of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic NAKI II: Applied Research and Development of National and Cultural Identity Programme for years 2016–2020 (DG16P02M013). Partners of the project are Palacký University in Olomouc and Masaryk University in Brno.
